Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) looks on after being sacked during the first half of the NFL Wild Card game against the Houston Texans at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA on January 12, 2026.

Future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers still hasn’t revealed whether he plans to suit up next season or officially call it a career. But based on a recent report, a return to the field appears increasingly unlikely.

During an appearance on 93.7 The Fan, CBS Sports reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala said the odds of Rodgers coming back for the 2026 campaign are “minuscule.”

“Having spoken to people who were around him, who have been around him, most everyone that I’ve spoken to who has been around him feels that the chance that he comes back to play is minuscule, so you take that for what it’s worth,” Kinkhabwala said during the interview.

“In conversations with people who were around him all year, who were with him when he was leaving the Steelers when the season was over, all of those people that I spoke to said that it seems far more likely that he is done than that he is going to return.”

Needless to say, this report sparked a lot of reactions.

“Good career Aaron!! Great quarterback, in my opinion! Loved him as quarterback for Green Bay!” one fan wrote in the comments on NewsBreak.

“Rodgers has always been a threat to defense teams but his time has come. Enjoy your retirement from the field and enjoy your life,” someone else wrote.

“He’ll be back at some point either late this year or or years later like Phillip Rivers probably with the Colts or another contender late in the season if their qb1 goes down. ARod takes premium care of himself with yoga, hemp and all the other natural healings so he can play at 50. Just keep skipping rope and throw about fifty passes a day A-Rod and you’ll come in gun-slinging late season and get hot on a run for someone like Houston or Ind,” another person added.

“Retire Aaron. You’ll be 43 in December. Time to go!.. Give Will Howard a shot!” someone else wrote.

“Aaron Rodgers will retire he’s done now he can spend time with his wife enjoy life and one of those caves that he likes to live in,” another person added.

There has been plenty of chatter suggesting Rodgers might return for one final run, reuniting with his longtime former head coach, Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy and Rodgers were together for 12 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, winning Super Bowl LXV together. Now, McCarthy is set to take over as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers following the exit of Mike Tomlin.

If this report proves accurate, it appears a Rodgers-McCarthy reunion won’t be happening after all.

We’ll ultimately have to wait for Rodgers to make things official, but all signs at this point seem to be pointing toward retirement.
