The most significant development from this weekend’s NFL postseason action was the season-ending injury suffered by Denver Broncos starting quarterback Bo Nix. Now, the Broncos appear to be moving forward with backup plans.

Following the overtime victory against the Buffalo Bills, Broncos head coach Sean Payton revealed that Nix suffered a broken bone in his ankle late in the contest and will miss the rest of the postseason.

With Nix sidelined, Denver will rely on backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who is set to start this week’s AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots and would also start in the Super Bowl should the Broncos advance. However, the team has brought in another quarterback to bolster depth behind him.

According to NFL insider Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the Broncos have signed veteran quarterback Ben DiNucci to round ou

“DiNucci was on the Broncos practice squad in 2023 and knows Denver’s offense well. Denver gets some help behind Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger for the AFC title game,” Jones wrote in a post on X.

While DiNucci is clearly not expected to take over as the starter and would only see action in an emergency, situations like this are far from unheard of.

In the 2023 NFC Championship Game, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a torn UCL in his throwing elbow early on. Backup Josh Johnson stepped in but later exited with a concussion, forcing Purdy to return despite being unable to throw the football.

Should a similar scenario unfold this week, DiNucci would serve as the emergency third quarterback. Although he has been in the league for several years, DiNucci has made just one career start, which came with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020.

Needless to say, the news led to a lot of reactions on social media.

“Was Tommy DeVito unavailable?” one fan asked in a post on X.

“Future Super Bowl champion Ben DiNucci,” another fan wrote.

“Will Ben DiNucci win a Super Bowl before Dak?” someone else asked.

“If Ben DiNucci starts, I MIGHT root for the Broncos to win the Super Bowl. He won’t, but it’s nice to dream,” another fan wrote.

“The Denver Broncos are going to win a Super Bowl with Jarrett Stidham, Sam Ehlinger, and Ben DiNucc,” someone else added.

The Broncos will obviously hope they don’t have to use DiNucci. But if
