Recently, Quinenn Wiliams removed all mention of the New York Jets from the bio on his Twitter account and unfollowed the franchise on all of his social media. This move comes as Williams and the Jets were reportedly “not close” to a contract extension for the star defensive tackle. And perhaps, this is how star players show their displeasure with contract negotiations in the modern era of the NFL.
For the Jets to have the same defensive success they had last season, New York needs Quinnen Williams in the fold. And his head coach, Robert Saleh, knows it. Saleh was asked about Williams, his contract extension, or lack thereof, and when he expects the star defensive tackle to arrive for offseason workouts.
Before Saleh answered the question, he made sure to shout out Williams and his wife, who was expecting the birth of his first child.
“I’m not worried at all,” Saleh said Tuesday. “That thing will get done, and he’ll be here.”
If this lingers and Williams holds out longer than expected, it will significantly disrupt Gang Green’s chances. In any event, the Jets will likely be able to get a deal done with Williams, especially considering that they’ve already pushed all their chips to the center of the table with the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers.
