When the New York Jets lost Aaron Rodgers to a season-ending injury earlier this month, many thought that the team could make a free-agent move to bolster the quarterback position, perhaps adding a veteran quarterback. But that does not seem to be the case, as the team is actively declining offers from veteran quarterbacks.
According to a report from NFL insider Jay Glazer of Fox Sports on Sunday, former MVP quarterback Matt Ryan and former star quarterback Carson Wentz reached out to the New York Jets and offered to join the team to help replace Rodgers. But the Jets declined both of their offers.
“With Aaron Rodgers out for however long he’s out, the Jets are sticking with Zach Wilson as the quarterback. That hasn’t stopped other quarterbacks from trying to get Gang Green’s attention,” Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wrote on Sunday.
“Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that both Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan have reached out to the Jets about joining the team. The Jets declined.”
It’s a pretty big update, as it means the Jets are very serious about moving forward with Zach Wilson, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on social media.
eh, i get it. the jets got a free pass to suck this season while keeping their first round pick four plays into week 1. why pick 16th when you can pick 6th? https://t.co/y3uzsVt7sX

It will be interesting to see how the decision not to add a veteran quarterback plays out for the Jets.
