The New England Patriots feel that they have one of the ascending talents in the league at the quarterback position in second-year player Drake Maye. New England brought in Mike Vrabel as the team’s new head coach this offseason to instill the right culture around Maye.
However, success in the NFL almost always comes down to health, as teams like the San Francisco 49ers showed last year, missing the playoffs just one season after making the Super Bowl, after having injuries completely derail their season.
Unfortunately for Maye and the Pats, one player they were counting on to help Maye succeed will be missing the entire 2025 season due to a brutal shoulder injury, per one prominent NFL insider.
“Sources: #Patriots WR Ja’Lynn Polk will miss the entire 2025 season due to a shoulder injury that requires surgery. The 2024 second-round pick saw multiple specialists, and surgery was determined to be the best course of action — with the goal of being fully healthy for 2026,” reported Jordan Schultz on Thursday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“His career as a Patriot is over. He was WAY over drafted as a 2nd round pick and that proved to be true based on his performance last year,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Unless Javon Baker or Caedan Wallace somehow make the roster and earn playing time, Drake Maye probably will be the only 2024 draftee who gives the Patriots anything this season,” someone else added.
“I was ridiculously high on Maye Polk 2024. This is a sad day,” one fan added.
Hopefully, Polk makes a complete recovery and comes back stronger than ever.
