The Los Angeles Chargers added former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris in free agency this offseason. Harris should help lighten the load on the shoulders of star quarterback Justin Herbert.

Unfortunately, Harris suffered a brutal eye injury while celebrating the Fourth of July over the long holiday weekend. His agent, Doug Hendrickson, released a statement.

“Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.”

ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter then followed up with more news concerning the accident.

“The July 4 fireworks mishap involving Chargers RB Najee Harris resulted in injuries to several attendees. One person was hospitalized after he lost fingers in the accident in Antioch, California, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing police.”

Fans reacted to the unfortunate situation on social media.

“How is ‘no fireworks’ not in the standard contract after JPP,” one fan wanted on Twitter wanted to know.

“Najee Harris is explosive but this definitely ain’t the way,” someone else added.

“NFL players vs fireworks is an all-time rivalry you’d think after JPP they’d learn to stay away,” one fan added.

Hopefully, NFL players start taking extra precautions around fireworks.
