Last month, Votehub conducted a study of athlete partisanship by league for the four major professional leagues in the United States, as well as the WNBA. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the WNBA was found to have the most liberal lean among its players, whilst the MLB and NHL were the most conservative.
The NFL was found to be the most politically diverse league in the study, and now, Votehub has done some diving into the league, this time breaking down political affiliation by league.
The Green Bay Packers had the strongest political lean toward the Democratic Party at +38.9. The San Francisco 49ers had the largest lean toward the Republican Party at +13.6.
Fans reacted to the findings on social media.
“0 packers felt comfortable stating they were republican? That’s very telling about the team culture and very sad,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Crazy how the most conservative teams plays for the most liberal city,” someone else added.
“I personally know too many of them that are outright hardliners and pro level noticers. This whole thing is a joke. Packers have a policy not to publicly comment on sociological or political topics for both players and coaches. I’d like to see how they came to the conclusion,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how teams’ political leanings evolve over time.
