The Minnesota Vikings finally get to see what young quarterback J.J. McCarthy has after he missed all of his rookie season due to a menicus injury he suffered in his first NFL action in the 2024 preseason.

However, McCarthy’s play has been inconsistent through the first two starts of his career. McCarthy especially struggled in the Vikings’ Sunday night loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Complicating matters further, he sustained a high ankle sprain in the game, which will cause him to miss at least one game moving forward.

With McCarthy out, the Vikings have made a signing to bring in some outside help, per one prominent league insider.

The #Vikings are signing QB Desmond Ridder to the 53-man roster, with JJ McCarthy suffering an ankle injury, per me and (Tom Pelissero),” reported Ian Rapoport on NFL Network.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“McCarthy’s scrambles scream franchise QB upside, but if Ridder flashes even a hint of that Falcons spark the Vikings might just rethink their rookie gamble sooner than we think,” one fan wroteo on Twitter.

“Hope J.J. McCarthy has a speedy recovery from ankle injury,” another fan added.

“Wentz is still going to start. No way they start Ridder hes just there to be Wentz backup incase anything happens,” someone else added.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Vikings roll with Ridder as the starter in their next game.
