Miles Sanders opted not to re-sign with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, instead signing with the Carolina Panthers. Many were surprised by the move at the time, but Sanders discussed why he made the move, hinting that it may stem from a lack of opportunities in last year’s Super Bowl.
Sanders had a breakout season in Philadelphia last year, recording 1,269 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns. Despite this, he only saw seven touches in their Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, which is something that Sanders is seemingly still upset about.
He spoke about his frustrations with his former team, saying that the Super Bowl was one of many factors that lead to his departure
“Last game of the season? For all of the marbles? Everybody can answer that question,” Sanders told Steve Reed of the Associated Press on last year’s Super Bowl. “If they put themselves in my shoes, would they be happy? I don’t want to make headlines, but if it does, I don’t care.
“I can get into that another day, maybe,” Sanders added. “Maybe you should ask them why I’m moving here.”
The Eagles notably made some significant moves this offseason to replace Sanders, bringing D’Andre and Rashaad Penny from the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks, respectively.
It obviously remains to be seen if cutting ties with Sanders will have any negative effects on the Eagles’ offense next year. Regardless, Sanders very clearly believes that he should have been the bigger factor on the biggest stage for them.
