NFL world buzzing over Mike Williams’ awesome TD catch

Mike Williams caught only two passes for 10 yards in Week 1. With Keenan Allen out, the Los Angeles Chargers were going to need a much better outing from Williams in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He delivered throughout the first half and early in the second half, produced a highlight reel touchdown catch.

The Chargers led the Chiefs 10-7 at halftime with Williams six passes for 84 yards in the first half. That included a long bomb to help set up the first touchdown of the game.

Los Angeles received the second half kickoff and he was right back at it. Early in the possession, Williams picked up a first down with a 14-yard reception. The Chargers drove deep into Kansas City territory and facing a fourth-and-one, elected to run the ball with Austin Ekeler rather than try a short field goal. Ekeler picked up three yards and on the next play, Justin Herbert looked for Williams in the end zone.

It’s not that L’Jarius Sneed had bad coverage. Far from it. But at 6-foot-1, 192 pounds, there was only so much he could do against the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Williams. Williams also showed remarkable athleticism in not only catching the ball, but doing so with his “buttock” in bounds. This is why he got a lot of money in the offseason.

NFL fans had a strong reaction to Williams’ catch and overall dominant performance on Thursday.

The touchdown grab gave Williams eight receptions for 113 yards on the night. In his previous two games playing at Arrowhead Stadium, Williams had six receptions for 108 yards with one touchdown and nine receptions for 122 yards with two touchdowns.

Clearly, something about Kansas City suits Williams’ game well.
