The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to look quite a bit different on offense this coming NFL season after the departure of Tom Brady this offseason, who retired at the age of 45. The shakeup at quarterback has many expecting the team to take a step back this year and rebuild a little bit, but star receiver Mike Evans certainly doesn’t have that expectation.
During an interview with ESPN this week, Mike Evan made it very clear that he does not see this as a rebuilding year entering the 2023 NFL season. Instead, he thinks that the team should be competing to win the division, just like they have in previous years.
“Rebuilding? We are just trying to win right now,” Evans said. “I don’t know why people don’t see that. Win the division, after that people can take care of themselves.”
Tom Brady obviously helped bring the team to success, leading them to a Super Bowl championship following the 2020 NFL season. Now, the starter will be either Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask. And whoever it is, it sure sounds like Evans is confident that the team will be every bit as successful this season as it has been in the past.
We’ll have to see whether or not the team can live up to his expectations.
