The Atlanta Falcons are looking to make the playoffs behind the arm of ascending young quarterback Michael Penix Jr. However, Penix Jr. has shown some flashes of inexperience lately that have led some to think that the Falcons would be better off starting veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris has remained steadfast in his support of his young quarterback, but it’s looking as if a brutal injury to Penix Jr. may end up forcing his hand.

“Falcons HC Raheem Morris told reporters that Michael Penix has a bone bruise in his foot that now will leave him day to day,” ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Monday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“That’s a tough call. A bone bruise, especially in the foot, can be more painful than it sounds and seriously limit explosiveness. While it’s a relief it’s not a tear, the Falcons should lean toward caution. If they play him, they risk him compensating and aggravating the injury or developing a secondary issue,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“As a Niner fan I’m glad they didn’t put Kirky in. lol. Cuz you could see him on the sideline and he was ready to come in and takes Shanny’s soul,” someone else added.

“His ego was looking pretty bruised last night too,” one fan added.

It’ll be intersting to see if this leads to Cousins’ first start of the season.
