After suffering its fifth-consecutive loss last week against the New England Patriots, the Miami Dolphins now find themselves facing an absolute must-win game against the New York Jets with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance. But unfortunately for Miami, the team won’t have its starting quarterback with Tua Tagovailoa still in concussion protocol, and it might not have backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, either.
As the team begins its practice week, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel revealed that Bridgewater is not yet ready to throw as he deals with a dislocated pinky that he suffered last week, and McDaniel doesn’t know when he will be ready to play.
“I can’t really forecast Teddy’s availability,” McDaniel said according to Pro Football Talk. “What I do know is, nothing’s more important to [Bridgewater] than making himself available for the team. Right now, he will be doing some ball-handling things. But he can’t throw a football yet, so it’s tough to know anything until you can throw a football. So, I know he’s going to do everything in his power [to play].”
If Bridgewater is not able to practice or play, rookie quarterback Skylar Thompson would make his second start of the season, after he completed just 12-of-21 passes for 104 yards with a touchdown and an interception last week.
It’s certainly not a situation you want ahead of a must-win game.
