Matt Nagy makes Chicago Bears starting quarterback announcement

Matt Nagy has been making lots of headlines in recent weeks for all the wrong reasons. The Chicago Bears head coach has been extremely coy about his quarterback position and play-calling, all of which came to a head last weekend when Justin Fields made his debut and the Bears put together one of the worst offensive performances in NFL history. Nagy’s inability to adjust his gameplan according for a new quarterback has a lot of Bears fans wondering if he knows how to get the team back on track.

Regular starter Andy Dalton has been dealing with an injury the last few weeks, but Nagy has made it clear he Nagy he still considers Dalton the No. 1 quarterback, Fields the No. 2 quarterback, and Nick Foles as the No. 3 quarterback. He reiterated that sentiment earlier this week while also confirming that he understands the play-calling needs an overhaul. However, he refused to commit to any specifics.

With a huge game set for Sunday against the Detroit Lions, the Bears need to move in the right direction. As far as what that direction is, Nagy still refuses to give details. He told reporters on Friday that his starting quarterback will be a game-time decision on Sunday.

It should be noted that Dalton is listed as questionable due to the knee injury and he was very limited in practice all week. Meanwhile, Fields fully participated all week long and is not listed on the injury sheet at all. It seems odd that Nagy wouldn’t just admit that Fields will be the starter, but he’s shown a real propensity for being obstinate, especially in the face of decisions that get critiqued.

It seems likely that Fields will make his second start on Sunday but we’ll have to wait until then to know for sure.
