The Kansas City Chiefs have a huge hole in their offense to fill now that Tyreek Hill has been traded to the Miami Dolphins. They found one piece of the puzzle in signing former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
According to Adam Schefter, Valdes-Scantling is signing a three-year, $30 million deal worth up to $36 million to become a dependable target for Patrick Mahomes. He certainly knows what it’s like to catch passes from an MVP quarterback since he’s been doing that for four years with Aaron Rodgers.
Valdez-Scantling was drafted by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Since then, he’s been a solid and dependable target, racking up over 400 yards receiving in each season, with 2020 being his best year at 690 yards and six touchdowns. Overall, he has 123 receptions for 2,153 yards and 13 scores.
While he won’t replace Hill by any means, he’s going to be a solid pass-catcher for Mahomes and the Chiefs quarterback expressed his excitement over the new arrival on Twitter.
There’s a lot of potential here for the young receiver to break out while it’s also a relative bargain for the Chiefs as they figure out what their offense looks like in 2022.
As for Rodgers and the Packers, they’re losing wide receivers left and right and might want to consider bringing in some fresh talent of their own soon before the quarterback starts to regret his extension.
