The New England Patriots have struggled on offense this season, ranking next-to-last in the league in terms of points per game. But rookie Malik Cunningham is ready to help however he can – whether it’s at quarterback or at wide receiver.

The quarterback position has been a concern for the Patriots this season with Mac Jones getting benched on several occasions throughout the season in favor of backup Bailey Zappe, who has also not performed particularly well. Even though Malik Cunningham hasn’t gotten a chance to perform in a game, it sounds like he would be ready if he was called.

“Yeah, I’m very confident in my game,” Cunningham said according to MassLive.com. “I feel like my teammates are confident in me, too. I’m confident in those guys. We’re all just coming together and trying to get this win this weekend.”

Cunningham has obviously played quarterback throughout his career, but given his athleticism, the team has also tried him at playing wide receiver.

“For sure, just picking up the offense, learning the ins and outs. At quarterback, you never close yourself off,” Cunningham said. “You’ve got to be willing to learn each and every day. Just trying to get better at that along with the receiver stuff.”

Regardless of where he plays, it’s clear that the offense has not clicked so far this season. Perhaps he could provide a change of pace if he got on the field.
