As the Los Angeles Rams look to recover from last season’s disappointment in which they went just 5-12, they may be without Cooper Kupp to open the season.
Kupp returned to practice last week after dealing with a hamstring injury throughout the preseason, and had a “setback” on Thursday, according to Rams coach Sean McVay.
McVay added that Kupp is “day-to-day” at the moment, and called the injury a “strain.” With just over a week to go before Los Angeles opens the season against Seattle, this news is obviously not what Rams fans want to hear right now.
Kupp had a tremendous showing in 2021, quickly becoming Matthew Stafford’s favorite target and hauling in an NFL-best 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns en route to winning the Super Bowl with the Rams, where he also set the record for most receptions in one postseason with 33. Kupp was named the AP’s Offensive Player of the Year for his monster season.
Kupp’s 2022 season was cut short after he suffered a high ankle sprain in a November loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and went on injured reserve for the rest of the year.
If Kupp is unable to suit up in the season opener, Los Angeles will likely rely on Van Jefferson and Demarcus Robinson to help fill the void.
