The Los Angeles Chargers will be missing one of their top wide receivers for the remainder of the season after star Mike Williams suffered a torn ACL during the win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. But it sounds like head coach Brandon Stanley doesn’t just see this as an obstacle, he sees it as an opportunity for young wide receiver Quentin Johnston.
The Los Angeles Chargers selected Quentin Johnston in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and Brandon Stanley thinks that he is ready to step up after the team announced that Mike Williams would be out for the season.
“We drafted Quentin with the belief in the player,” Staley said according to Pro Football Talk. “A long-term vision. Now, he’s going to get a bigger opportunity. Now, you’re going to get to see more of him. All he needs to continue to do is do what he’s done ever since he’s been here, which is to continue to make progress on the field. Over time, he’s going to make more and more plays for us. We’re really happy with him and he’s going to get to shine in a bigger way now.”
Obviously, replacing a star like Williams will be no easy task, but the team would not have selected him in the first round if they didn’t think he was capable of helping the team immediately. We’ll have to see how he performs.
