Following an attack on Israel by Palestinian militants, Hamas, the ongoing conflict has led to an entire region on edge. Gunmen from the Palestinian group entered Israel in an unprecedented attack and killed nearly 260 festival goers, who were attending the Supernova festival, held in the desert in Southern Israel to coincide with the Jewish festival of Sukkot.
As Hamas launched an attack on the nation, several people who have visited the holy land are in disarray, as they attempt to find shelter as war has seized the region. Among those people are the parents of Detroit Lions linebacker Alez Anzalone, who are part of a group that is currently stuck in Israel.
According to Fox News, Sal and Judy Anzalone are part of a 53-person group from First Naples Church in Naples, Florida, who are trying to find their way out of the country that’s embattled by a full-fledged war.
As Alex’s parents are stuck in Israel, he played in Sunday’s 42-24 win over the Carolina Panthers with a heavy heart.
“It’s hard,” Anzalone told The Detroit News. “(It’s) really all I’ve been thinking about.”
Florida Representative Byron Donalds, whose district includes Naples, was on CNN to discuss the chaotic situation. Anzalone shared the clip of Donalds’ CNN appearance and in a since-deleted tweet, Anzalone pleaded with United States President Joe Biden, “My parents are in this group. Please get my parents home… @POTUS,” he wrote on the platform now known as X, according to Fox News.
We certainly hope that Anzalone’s parents and the other Americans stuck in Israel are able to make it back home safely.
