The New England Patriots may be looking to sign former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette.
Fournette, who is 28, worked out for the team on Wednesday according to reports.
Fournette has played for the Bucs since coming out of LSU but his production with the team has dropped off over the years.
Fournette hasn’t rushed for over a 1,000 yards in three years when had his best season back in 2019 when he rushed for over 1100 yards.
Despite that, he could still be an asset for the Pats. The Patriots’ offense struggled at times and dealt with injuries with their running back core.
Damian Harris, who rushed for almost a 1,000 yards back in 2021, had less than 500 yards rushing last year and dealt with some injuries.
Luckily for the team, Rhamondadre Steveson stepped in and rushed for over a 1,0000 yards in Harris’ place last season.
So why would the Pats be looking at Fournette? He’s a veteran, first of all, who has been in the league for a while and he is also an excellent pass catcher.
He’d make a good backup to both Stevenson and Harris, in case the team is hit again with injuries. He may not be able to carry a team on his back but the Patriots aren’t looking for that. They are looking for another weapon to help Mac Jones.
