The Baltimore Ravens and their fans are breathing a huge sigh of relief after quarterback Lamar Jackson seemed to escape significant injury in Thursday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Baltimore was already having a bad night on the injury front. On the first possession of the game, All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews was injured while being tackled by Logan Wilson. Later in the quarter, the Ravens had the ball again. Baltimore went three-and-out on the possession.
On the third down play, Jackson rolled to his right and was chased by Wilson. Jackson threw the ball away as he was being brought down by Jackson close to the sideline. The quarterback, though, was slow to get up. When he did, he headed over to the Baltimore sideline and into the medical tent.
Fortunately, the worst fears of the Ravens and their fans weren’t realized. During Cincinnati’s subsequent offensive possession, Jackson emerged from the medical tent. After walking gingerly for a few steps, Jackson began to jog.
When the Ravens offense returned to the field, Jackson was again under center.
Jackson has consistently been one of the NFL’s best starting quarterbacks since he became Baltimore’s starter during the 2019 season. That said, durability has been an issue. After playing 15 of 16 games in both 2019 and 2020, Jackson missed five games in both 2021 and 2022. In 2023, he’s started all 11 of Baltimore’s games.
