The Cincinnati Bengals have been trying their best to build a strong offensive line around star quarterback Joe Burrow, but they’ve run into a few issues, particularly at the right tackle position.
Last season, starting right tackle La’el Collins suffered a devastating knee injury that required surgery after he tore three ligaments. With the timetable for his return uncertain, the Bengals signed Orlando Brown Jr. to play left tackle with plans to slide former left tackle Jonah Williams to right tackle. However, Williams didn’t want to do that and soon requested a trade from the team.
It’s a pretty brutal situation all around, but it sounds like Collins thinks things will work out just fine. It also sounds like he expects to remain teammates with Williams.
“Jonah’s going to be fine,” Collins said of Williams according to Geoff Hobson of the team website. “He’s a hell of an NFL player. He’s a first-round pick. He’s done it.
“I’ve got all the confidence in the world in Jonah with the type of person he is. It’s like every one of these guys in here. To me, man, all it is is we’re going to be better, and we’re going to have depth and we’re going to be deep, and we’re coming, and we’re not stopping.”
We’ll have to see what the Bengals ultimately decide to do at the right tackle position next season, but Collins sounds confident regardless.
