At long last, Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals have finally reached a deal on his contract extension.
The Cardinals announced the news on Twitter.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Cardinals are giving Murray a five-year, $230.5 million deal that includes $160 million guaranteed. It is the second-largest AAV of any quarterback.
Many thought earlier this year that Murray might sit out if a deal wasn’t reached with the team.
Early this year, Murray had taken down his Cardinals information on social media while he is going through his contract dispute but despite that, Murray confirmed his commitment to the team back in March.
“I’m an Arizona Cardinal,” he said, via the team’s website. “I’ve done nothing but give my all to the Cardinals and will continue to do that. I’m not really too worried about my future as a Cardinal.”
Now the pressure is on for Murray to produce. His overall record, playoffs included, is 22-24-1 as a starter. Despite the Cardinals getting off to a good start last year, they ended up being a wild card team facing the Los Angeles Rams where they were humiliated 34-11.
In that game, Murray threw for just 137 yards, no touchdowns, and 2 interceptions, one being returned for a touchdown.
Murray looked at times like a rookie instead of a 2-year starter, so when he asked for a raise and extension, many were surprised and they will be even more surprised that the Cardinals gave in.
