Over the weekend, another senseless mass shooting took place in the United States. On Saturday, a gunman, armed with an AR-15-style rifle, opened fire at a popular outlet mall in the Dallas suburb of Allen, Texas. This terrifying incident has left eight victims dead and another seven injured, according to officials.
This is already the 199th mass shooting in the United States in 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive, and another community is left grappling over an act of senseless violence. This latest mass shooting has hit close to home for a lot of Texas residents, including Arizona Cardinals star quarterback Kyler Murray, who attended Allen High School.
Murray, who was born in Bedford, Texas, committed to Texas A&M after a storied career at Allen High School. Murray was named the Gatorade Football Player of the Year in 2014 and became the first player to be named Mr. Texas Football twice. Murray led Allen High School to three straight State Championships and 43 consecutive wins in a row.
The school that helped propel him to where he is today is just a 1o-minute drive from the popular outlet mall. Murray took to Twitter after news broke over social media about the deadly mass shooting just a few minutes from where he grew up.
“This is sickening. Prayers to the mass shooting victims in Allen, Texas. If there is anyway I can help those affected by this tragedy please let me know. When is this **** gonna stop?” Murray said in a tweet.
Murray’s strong message has nearly 2 million views on Twitter and drew a lot of reactions from those in the sports world, who also want to see change.
