The San Francisco 49ers know that the NFC West is wide open this season. That’s perfect for a San Francisco team that is looking to bounce back after missing out on the playoffs entirely a season ago, after an injury-riddled 2024 season.
The 49ers are optimistic that their injury luck will be better this season, although multiple wide receivers are already dealing with injuries. Unfortunately, it looks as if even San Francisco’s healthy wideouts will be unavailable.
Last month, DeMarcus Robinson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge, which automatically puts him in line for a three-game suspension from the league offices for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about the situation on Monday.
“There is an appeal process,” Shanahan responded, according to Pro Football Talk. “I’m not sure how it’s going. So, I always just plan for the worst and hope for the best. But he’s done a good job here. We’ve really enjoyed him as a guy, knowing he won’t be in there, most likely for those first few games.
“He’ll play a lot more in the preseason, but hopefully we can shorten that with an appeal process.”
Complicating things is that Robinson was reportedly driving faster than 100 miles per hour, which could be categorized as an aggravated circumstance and increase the suspension from three games.
It’ll be interesting to see how the situation unfolds.
