The Dallas Cowboys appeared to be in serious trouble when star quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a hand injury in the team’s season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But since then, backup quarterback Cooper Rush has led the team to four-straight wins. With Prescott nearing a return, Rush has played so well that former Cowboys wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson thinks the team should reconsider making a change at quarterback.
In an interview with Audacy this week, Johnson said that if Rush and the Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles this week and Rush plays well, he should continue to be the team’s starter over Prescott going forward.
“If [Rush] gets the start against the Eagles, and they win the game and he plays well … then my conversation is, we’re not going to change anything in Detroit. We’re going to allow Cooper Rush to remain the starter, and that’s what I would do,” Johnson expressed Monday on his morning radio show. “I would keep him as the starter if he contributes and they beat the Eagles. He has to contribute. It can’t be in spite of him.”
So far this season, Rush has thrown for 839 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions, completing 62.5 percent of his passes.
The Cowboys face the undefeated Eagles on Sunday night with the division lead on the line.
