The Cleveland Browns are trying to get the train back on track after a brutal season that saw them earn the second overall pick in the NFL draft. The Browns started things by signing star pass rusher Myles Garrett to a major extension to get him to rescind his very public trade request.
Now, the Browns are looking at nailing things in the NFL draft. Cleveland has been heavily linked to reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, and Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski discussed Hunter’s potential prior to the draft.
“Well, not to get into all the specifics, but Travis is somebody that is uniquely equipped to do both,” Stefanski said of Hunter’s ability to play both offense and defense, according to Pro Football Talk.
“You know, I remember having a conversation with him about, there’s only so many hours in the day, so you’re going to have to meet extra with this coach or that coach, and he made a comment that he’s a fisherman. He gets up at five in the morning quite often, so that’s not a problem for him in terms of maximizing his day.”
Stefanski also said that drafting a quarterback is a route the Browns may take.
“Yeah, I’m open,” Stefanski said, via a transcript from the team. “Obviously, we’ll see how it all shakes out. You know, it goes back to the original question about that room and that position. We’re going to compete in that room.
“If we’re able to add another guy to the mix to compete, I think I view that as a positive. And if we don’t, we really like the guys that are competing right now.”
Regardless of what position the Browns end up drafting with the second pick, it’s critical that they get the pick right.
