NFL world abuzz over controversial sack celebration

A controversial sack celebration has some of the NFL world up in arms.

The New York Giants have handled business on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts thus far. The Giants led 24-3 over the Colts after the first half, which was littered with great play by the home team. New York wants to get to the postseason for the first time since 2016 and a win against the Colts would inch them closer.

Before we get there though, one of the team’s stars has himself in some controversy now. First-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux came in and sacked Colts quarterback Nick Foles late in the second quarter. Thibodeaux came in unblocked and hit Foles hard down on the turf. Then, the former Oregon Duck celebrated his sack with a snow angel on the ground. The trouble is, Foles was down beside him. And in obvious distress.

So, it’s fair to say that Thibodeaux didn’t really know Foles was in a heap of trouble. But, that didn’t stop the world from reacting to the ill-timed celebration.

Fantasy football guru and TV personality Matthew Berry tweeted, “Nick Foles down on the ground, after a sack and convulsing on the ground. They are bringing the cart out. As Kayveon Thibodeaux lays next to him doing a ‘snowman’ and then goes to the sidelines and celebrates putting Foles ‘to sleep.’ Come on man.”

Canadian sports personality Jeremy St. Louis came in stronger. “Should have been flagged and should be fined by both his team AND NFL. Disgusting behavior,” said St. Louis.

Twitter user “KxngLenny_” tweeted an insane video from Blitz: The League to describe the moment.

ESPN NY radio voice Gordon Damer tweeted a meme of someone dancing extravagantly to represent the situation.

Podcaster Kyle Bennett called it “absolutely DISGUSTING and disrespectful behavior.”
