The Kansas City Chiefs have made it clear that they would consider leaving Kansas City if the city did not approve a sales tax to help fund planned renovations to the team’s Arrowhead Stadium. And the team got pretty horrible news on that front on Tuesday as the sales tax was rejected.
On Tuesday afternoon, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas announced on social media that the people of Kansas City had voted agains the sales tax to fund the stadium.
“The people of Kansas City and Jackson County love the Chiefs and the Royals. Today, they rejected plans and processes they found inadequate,” Lucas said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
“Over the months ahead, I look forward to working with the Chiefs and Royals to build a stronger, more open, and collaborative process that will ensure the teams, their events and investments remain in Kansas City for generations to come,” Lucas said in a follow-up post.
This is obviously horrible news for the Chiefs, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.
We’ll have to see whether or not the Chiefs decide to leave the city.
