Andy Reid is likely Canton-bound when he eventually decides to retire as an NFL coach. Reid has been the architect for prolific offenses both in Philadelphia and Kansas City. His Chiefs have won two Super Bowls under his direction.
While the 65-year-old Reid has shown no indications of slowing down, he’s reached the age and the level of achievements where the question of retirement becomes commonplace. That’s not to say that once Reid reaches a particular age or milestone, he’ll call it quits, but he’s certainly getting to the point where he could comfortably retire.
Though, it doesn’t seem like that will happen anytime soon. And it certainly sounds like Chiefs’ CEO Clark Hunt doesn’t want to see it happen anytime soon.
Hunt was asked Sunday if he had any feeling that Reid was going to retire soon.
“I really don’t, and I hope I don’t for a long time,” Hunt said via ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
And who could blame Hunt? Across 10 seasons in Kansas City, Reid has led the Chiefs to a 117-45 record (10-6 postseason) and he’s also delivered two Super Bowl trophies in the process.
Reid is one of the greatest coaches in NFL history and it’ll be a sad day once he officially calls it quits. And while Hunt probably wouldn’t indicate if he had the feeling that Reid is going to retire soon, it should be comforting for Chiefs fans to learn that their head coach isn’t going anywhere.
