Chicago Bears starting quarterback Justin Fields has missed the past few games with a thumb injury sustained last month, but it sounds like he will finally be making his return to the field this week.
During his press conference on Wednesday, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus announced that the team intends to start Justin Fields in this week’s game against the Detroit Lions.
“He’s progressing well and our plan is to start him this week,” Eberflus said according to Pro Football Talk.
“This will be a big evaluation today … going full speed, doing full-speed reps. So, it’ll be a big evaluation today,” Eberflus continued.
Fields has missed the past four games with the team after suffering the thumb injury with undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent taking over the quarterback duties in his place. But even while he wasn’t on the field with the team, Eberflus said he was providing helpful support behind the scenes.
“You can feel support,” Eberflus said. “You can feel him being genuine about that support and really helpful. And he was great that way.
“He’s always been a great teammate, always been one of the hardest workers. He was engaged in all those game plans to be supportive and to be helpful.”
