Last season, Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields made several highlight plays with his legs, but not so much with his arm. While Fields set a couple of longstanding NFL records in the process, he only threw for 2,242 yards, which ranked 26th among qualified quarterbacks in 2022.

Now, it’s fair to say that perhaps those numbers could have been a bit higher with some better talent around him. And the Bears have accommodated Fields and made the playing field a bit more level. That being said, he’s placed some bold expectations on himself.

During a recent appearance on the All Things Covered podcast, Fields was asked if he would become the first passer in franchise history to reach the 4,000 yards mark in a season. He didn’t hesitate before he gave a very confident answer.

I will. I plan on doing it this year, too. I plan on doing it this year,” Fields said via Pro Football Talk.

The franchise record for passing yards in a season (3,838) was set back in 1995 by Erik Kramer. The Bears have had some talented passers since then, but none have gotten too close to breaking Kramer’s mark.

It certainly remains to be seen if Fields will be able to nearly double his passing yards from a season before.
