As the Minnesota Vikings continue their stretch run toward the NFL playoffs, it looks like they’re making a move to add a little bit of depth to the quarterback position behind starting quarterback Kirk Cousins as the team is signing a former top-10 pick at quarterback.
According to a report from league insider Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, the Minnesota Vikings have signed Josh Rosen to their practice squad.
“The #Vikings have signed QB Josh Rosen to their practice squad,” Rapoport said in a Tweet on Tuesday morning.
Rosen was selected No. 10 overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2018 NFL Draft but hasn’t really caught on in the league. He was immediately replaced by current Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray the following season, and hasn’t earned a regular starting position since 2019.
The Vikings become the sixth stop in the NFL for Rosen in five seasons, which is not what many people would have expected when the highly-touted UCLA star entered the league. He’s appeared in 24 NFL games throughout his five seasons in the league but hasn’t started a game since 2019 in his brief stint in Miami.
While he’s not expected to start or make significant on-field contributions to the Vikings anytime soon, this move certainly adds depth to the position.
