The Arizona Cardinals came under intense scrutiny after alleged tampering charges were brought against the team. On Tuesday, new head coach Jonathan Gannon apologized for what he called a “mistake.”
Gannon spoke to the media on Tuesday and delivered a formal apology and explanation for what happened.

“It’s a mistake that we made,” Gannon said via ProFootballTalk. “The league kind of rectified it, and we’ve moved on. Basically, after the NFC Championship Game, Monti [Ossenfort] reached out and kinda said, ‘Congratulations.’ He’s been to some Super Bowls and gave me a little advice about to handle that and said, ‘Look, we’re in the middle of a coaching search and don’t know how the timing of this is all going to shake out, but, basically, would you be interested in interviewing if the timing gets pushed back to after the Super Bowl? And I said, ‘Yeah, I would be.'”
Gannon said he didn’t hear anything until following the NFC Championship Game.
“It was a mistake that we made, and I apologize for that,” Gannon said to end the press conference held on Tuesday. “Looking forward to moving on now.”
Of course, Gannon accepted the job with the Cardinals after spending two seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator. His work spoke for itself this past season, as the Eagle defense was among the best in football, if not the best, especially at pass-rushing.
Now the Cardinals will hope to get past this tampering controversy.
