As Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered last December, many have been wondering who will be starting at quarterback for the Cardinals until Murray returns.
Many assumed it would be Colt McCoy, who filled in for Murray and started two games in December before being sidelined with a concussion and yielding the job to David Blough for the final two games.
Neither player found much success as Arizona’s season was already in jeopardy at that point. They were 4-9 when Murray got injured, and finished the season at 4-13, good for last place in the NFC West
However, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon was non-committal Tuesday when asked about the 2009 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, saying, “When we need to name the starters, we’ll name the starters. [McCoy] is doing a good job. I thought he operated well. I think he’s getting more and more comfortable with what we are asking him to do. He’s obviously played a lot of football but I like where his game is trending.”
Besides the injured Murray, Arizona has Blough, Clayton Tune, and Jeff Driskel as the other quarterbacks on their roster. So far, Tune has seen the most action in the preseason, going 25-47 with one touchdown pass and 268 yards in the two games he has appeared in.
