When the Cincinnati Bengals acquired Orland Brown Jr. to become their next left tackle, it was initially expected that former starting left tackle Jonah Williams would slide over to right tackle for the team. That plan quickly came into question when Williams requested a trade from the team, but it looks like the team is still planning to have him as their right tackle.
This week, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor addressed the trade request from Jonah Williams, and it sounds like he still expects him to compete for the team’s starting right tackle position.
“I like everything about Jonah. I’m excited to see him come in and compete at right tackle,” Taylor said according to the Cincinnati Bengals team website. “He’s always been everything we wanted him to be about. We’ve never had issues with him. Hopefully we can work through this and he can come in and compete at right tackle for us. That’s what we’re counting on him to do. . . . He’s never been an issue and I don’t anticipate that being an issue.”
It’s certainly a surprising update, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.
Obviously, it’s not what Williams wanted, so we’ll have to see how this situation continues to play out.
