The new Johnny Manziel documentary debuted Tuesday on Netflix, but one of the big reveals already leaked out.
In “Untold: Johnny Football,” the controversial former NFL quarterback revealed that after being released by the Cleveland Browns in 2016, he bought a gun and planned to take his own life.
That report left football fans buzzing. Although Manziel had his issues on and off the field, no one wants to hear that someone contemplated suicide.
Manziel reached out to his 1.8 million Twitter followers Monday night with a message thanking them for their support.
“Can’t wait for you guys to see this. Appreciate all the support!” Manziel noted, retweeting a Netflix promo for the documentary.
The 30-year-old Manziel, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2012, was drafted by the Browns in the first round in 2014. But his hard-partying ways, and poor results on the field, led to the end of his NFL career after only two seasons.
Manziel has played the last two seasons in Fan Controlled Football (FCF), an indoor league. He teamed up for a time with troubled former Browns teammate Josh Gordon.
