The Arizona Cardinals famously decided in the 2019 NFL Draft that star quarterback Kyler Murray would be their quarterback of the future, selecting him with the No. 1 overall pick. However, it seems like the organization and former general manager Steve Keim were almost scared off of the pick by another top draft prospect.
Keim discussed the wild story on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Friday. He revealed that he and former head coach Kliff Kingsbury were sold on Murray as the top overall pick.
However, he claimed that former Ohio State standout and current San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa told Keim he “would haunt him for the rest of his career” if Arizona chose Murray over him.
“We went to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and had dinner with Nick Bosa prior to the draft. Loved him obviously, our highest-rated guy on the board. Amazing in every way. We were walking out of the dinner and I’ll never forget that he put his arm around me and Kliff (Kingsbury). Almost had us in a headlock. And he said ‘I think you guys are probably going to end up taking that little quarterback. And if you do, I’m going to haunt you for the rest of your career.'”
Many around the NFL world took notice of this insane quote from Bosa and offered their opinion on how that prediction has turned out.
While Murray has been solid on an individual basis as a quarterback, it hasn’t exactly led to team success for the Cardinals. They have made the postseason just once in his four-year career.
On the other hand, Bosa has helped turn the 49ers into one of the best defenses in football, which has helped them reach the Super Bowl and two NFC Championship games in his four years.
At this point, it is hard to argue that Bosa’s prediction has not been pretty accurate in terms of haunting the Cardinals organization for not drafting him.
