Last season, Joe Flacco took over as the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns late in the season following a season-ending surgery to Deshaun Watson and was immediately pretty dominant, leading the team to a postseason berth and earning NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors as a result. Now, it sounds like his next stop could be with the New England Patriots.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN made it clear that he expects the New England Patriots to sign a veteran quarterback this offseason, and he threw out Joe Flacco as a player whom he thinks might be a very real possibility for the role.
“I’m not going to tell you that New England is into Baker [Mayfield],” Schefter said during the interview. “I could see it, but I think when we’re talking New England the first two names that come to my mind would be Joe Flacco and Jacoby Brissett.”
Schefter pointed out that during his time with the Browns last season, Flacco played under offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, who is now with the New England Patriots.
In addition to Flacco, Schefter suggested that Jacoby Brissett could be an option for the Patriots as well.
It will certainly be interesting to see how this plays out for the Patriots.
