Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) throws a pass during a preseason training camp practice in downtown Cincinnati on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

The Cincinnati Bengals are looking to maximize their competitive window with star quarterback Joe Burrow. Unfortunately for the Burrow and Cincinnati, the franchise hasn’t appeared in the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

The Bengals’ problems have a lot to do with slow starts to the season, a problem the team seems hell-bent on rectifying, even if it means putting Burrow and other star players at risk of injury.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor tells reporters that QB Joe Burrow and other big name players will play several series on Thursday night and more in game two against the #Commanders. New way of doing it, with eyes on starting fast,” reported Ian Rapoport on Thursday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“I said it last year and I’ll say it again, the Ravens need to do this too. Look at our first 4-6 games. We cannot come out flat like last year. I don’t care if Lamar hands it off 10 times, give him 10 snaps with another defense in a game situation,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“I like this, but any sign of discomfort for any of the stars, sit em. A new approach is needed, but let’s not fuck around with claves or hamstrings,” someone else added.

“Considering they’ve been absolutely awful record wise the last few Septembers…0-2 or worse each is the last 3 seasons… they HAVE to try and do things differently,” added another person.

It’ll be interesting to see if the move pays dividends for Cincinnati.
