Turning Point CEO Charlie Kirk speaks during the Turning Point USA’s Young Latino Leadership Summit at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix on April 18, 2021.

The United States was turned upside down by the assassination of right-wing political commentator Charlie Kirk in Orem, Utah. Since then, the response to Kirk’s murder has been divisive, with some mourning the controversial figure and others seemingly celebrating his demise.

The topic has even infiltrated the sports community. Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow’s foundation fired a member of the organization whose response it did not find to be in line with organizational values.

The organization released the following statement: “The Joe Burrow Foundation was founded on the belief that everyone has the responsibility to do good. We have terminated an advisory board member that made inappropriate remarks in light of recent events, and they are no longer associated with the foundation. Their comments do not reflect our values or mission. We are committed to accountability and respect for all.”

Fans reacted to the statement on social media.

“the right has become the bastion of snowflake cancel culture, attempting to match their hallucinated caricature of 2016 woke culture. free speech, expression, and thought are long forgotten,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Joe Burrow Foundation wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for right wing republicans. They steal money from kids who need food to eat and expect non-profits to come in and support,” one fan added.

“Imagine getting fired from your fake job at the Joe Burrow foundation lmfao,” someone else added.

It’ll be interesting to see if this news continues to permeate sports.
