Over the past few years, there has been heavy debate throughout the NFL regarding the playing surfaces throughout the league with data indicating that natural grass is safer than artificial turf. And while it seems unlikely that the league would replace all artificial turf fields with natural grass, even if it is safer, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow seems to have a compromise.
During a recent press conference, Joe Burrow said that if the NFL isn’t willing to put grass fields across the NFL, the league should at least create a uniform standard for artificial turf fields throughout the league.
“I think the last couple of years, studies have come out how much safer grass fields are. So I think that’s important,” Burrow said according to Pro Football Talk. “I think the most important thing is having a standard for the turf fields, having each turf field across the league have a standard, and all of them are the same. Everywhere you go that has turf, each turf is different. I think having uniformity across the league would be best.”
It’s certainly a reasonable plan from the star quarterback. It will be interesting to see whether or not the league will be willing to make it happen.
