Indianapolis Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor is heading into a contract year as he prepares for the 2023 season. But even before he begins the inevitable contract standoff with the team, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay seems to be sending a pretty clear message to his star running back.
In a tweet on Thursday, Jim Irsay addressed the current running backs market by calling it “inappropriate” for running backs trying to negotiate with NFL ownership while the current collective bargaining agreement is still in effect.
“NFL Running Back situation,” Irsay said in a tweet on Twitter on Thursday morning. “We have negotiated a CBA, that took years of effort and hard work and compromise in good faith by both sides..to say now that a specific Player category wants another negotiation after the fact, is inappropriate. Some Agents are selling ‘bad faith’..”
Obviously, this message does not bode well for any future negotiations between the team and Jonathan Taylor even before he enters his contract season with the team.
It will certainly be interesting to see how this relationship between the Colts and Taylor changes in the coming months, because it’s clear that this standoff between running backs and team owners is not going to change anytime soon.
