New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson (2) and wide receiver Randall Cobb (18) talk towards the end of the game. The Jets lose to the New England Patriots, 15-10, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, in East Rutherford.

Robert Saleh may be watching a different game than the rest of us.

The New York Jets coach has reportedly made a decision on Zach Wilson, naming him the team’s starter for Sunday night’s game against the Chiefs, despite his dismal performance in Week 3.

Wilson, who stepped in for Aaron Rodgers after just four snaps in a Jets uniform, has been statistically the worst quarterback in the league. While the Jets maintained that he is an improved quarterback with a newfound sense of confidence and a better pocket presence, nothing from the film suggests that he is any different than he was a season before.

According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, Saleh reiterated that Wilson IS the Jets’ starting quarterback this week, and they will be sticking with him despite Sunday’s performance, in which he completed just 18 of 36 passes (50 percent) for 157 yards.

Saleh was asked why he remains loyal to Wilson and why he thinks he can turn it around. Saleh said “What we see on a day-in, day-out basis” is someone who is “much improved” from a year ago.

“He’s improved. He’s getting better.”

Really?

Hughes asked Saleh if Wilson is the unquestioned starting quarterback for the rest of the year.

“He is the unquestioned starting quarterback,” said Saleh.

Then, he added that Wilson was not why the Jets lost to the Patriots, even though he very much was the reason why. That’ll go over well.

So there you have it. Zach Wilson and the Jets will take on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, just as everyone predicted.
