Optimism isn’t hard to come by for the New York Jets right now. The team just traded for superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Now it appears that the Jets have moved on to its next item on the agenda: Re-signing Quinnen Williams.
The Jets drafted Williams with the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Williams has excelled in his spot on the defensive line, and many believe he’s earned a hefty, new contract. Quinnen has recorded 27.5 sacks in his first four seasons in the NFL. He picked up a career-best 12.5 sacks last season and earned First-Team All-Pro honors for his fantastic 2022 season.
It’s been a game of “wait and see” on Williams and the Jets, but general manager Joe Douglas is optimistic the team can make something happen.
Douglas described the team as “optimistic and hopeful” that they will get a deal done with their star defensive lineman.
“Yes, still optimistic. I’ve had a lot of positive discussions with Nicole, and… optimistic. I feel like we’re trending in a good place so optimistic and hopeful is how I would describe that,” Douglas said to the media on Tuesday.
Williams reacted to the news later in the day. And, well, one specific word. “Optimistic,” Williams tweeted with a GIF of himself.

The rest of the NFL world took note of what happened between the Jets and Quinnen Williams.
