As Odell Beckham, Jr. searches for his next home, multiple NFL teams are actively courting the free-agent wide receiver. Beckham has been linked to the New York Jets in a possible East Rutherford reunion of some sort, ever since the team began its pursuit of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
With that in mind, everyone from head coach Robert Saleh to general manager Joe Douglas to owner Woody Johnson has made their interest in the Super Bowl-winning wideout quite clear.
Both Saleh and Douglas were spotted chatting with Beckham, who made a cameo at the NFL owners’ meetings in Phoenix on Tuesday. While Beckham declined to comment when asked if he wanted to play for the Jets, according to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, New York made its thoughts on the 30-year-old receiver very clear.
“He’s been a fantastic receiver in this league. Everything you hear about him, he’s a phenomenal person,” Saleh said of Beckham on Monday.
Douglas went a step further, though, according to SNY’s Connor Hughes. The Jets GM said that they have had “productive” conversations with Beckham’s representatives and it’s “possible” they get the former Los Angeles Rams receiver in for a visit at the team facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, soon.
While the Jets were carefully playing the game through the media during the league’s annual meetings, perhaps it was Johnson who sent the clearest message to Beckham, as it means just a little more coming from the team’s owner. According to Rosenblatt, Johnson said it’s exciting and “really cool” that a player and person of Beckham’s caliber would even consider the Jets.
While it remains to be seen whether Beckham ultimately returns to New York, the Jets have certainly sent the free-agent receiver a clear message.
