The New York Jets have already lost one quarterback for this season. What happens if they lose the rest?
Right now, the Jets are relying on Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback. If anything goes wrong with him, Tim Boyle is there as a backup.
It’s not unheard of for a team to suddenly find itself without a quarterback who can play. The San Francisco 49ers were decimated by injuries at the position last season and it ended up costing them a shot at the Super Bowl.
What happens if Wilson and Boyle both go down with an injury in their upcoming game?
According to Jets insider Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, receiver Randall Cobb will be their emergency quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.
Cobb comes with some signal-calling experience. He was the Kentucky Wildcats starting quarterback for four games in 2008 and he also played QB in high school. He even has quarterback experience in the NFL, technically, throwing four passing attempts with one completion for the Green Bay Packers against the Detroit Lions in 2017.
So at the very least, he knows the basics of the position and would be able to keep things from getting too out of hand.
The Jets certainly didn’t think this was something they’d have to worry about, but such are the whims of the NFL.
