Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens started a wild rumor this week saying that he had been in contact with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about a possible return to the NFL.
Jones has now denied he has had any contact with Owens, who is 49, or his agent Gregory Daniel. In fact, he says he won’t even consider it.
“I’ve never talked to him or his agent and will not seriously consider it,” Jones said during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “But I’ve never talked to him.”
Jones has been in hot pursuit of Odell Beckham Jr. but, according to Daniel, Jones has been in contact with him about Owens as well.
“We’ve been in constant communication with Jerry Jones’ office over the last few days about the possibility of him returning to the Cowboys,” said Daniel. “Terrell is ready to contribute and play any role, big or small. He’s in outstanding shape. He looks no different than he did years ago. I watched him running routes full-speed with DeSean and he looked great. He didn’t drop a pass.
“He most recently ran a 4.5 40-yard dash, which was his warm-up. He’s a legend. We want to make history and see him break these records. If anybody can do it, it’s him. His three Ds are desire, dedication, and discipline. He embodies that every day, even running hills at 3 a.m. on Christmas morning.”
It seems as if this has turned into a he-said, he-said situation. According to Owens, he hasn’t signed with the Cowboys because of money, but it sure sounds like this is just one of his classic publicity stunts.
