Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has recently announced who will be entering the Cowboys Ring of Honor and once again, it won’t be former head coach Jimmy Johnson.
Jones said that recently inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware will go into the team’s Ring of Honor this year. When asked about why Johnson won’t be inducted again, Jones answered with a pretty simple and quite blunt response: “Ware is a player. Jimmy is not. I wanted to put a player in.”
It’s widely known that Johnson and Jones have an ongoing feud that dates back to the 90s, and the feud seems to revolve around who was really responsible for the Cowboys’ success in those days – Jones or Johnson?
Jones clearly thought it was him and even said at one point he could bring anyone in to win with this team, which offended Johnson and they later parted ways.
Former Oklahoma head coach Barry Switzer did take Johnson’s place and won the Cowboys’ last Super Bowl but the team hasn’t been since.
Jones’ refusal to recognize Johnson has obviously put a strain on their relationship and it doesn’t look Jones will change his mind anytime soon.
