Jeff Saturday is breaking his silence.
After being considered a legitimate candidate for the Indianapolis Colts head coach vacancy, despite going 1-7 as the interim head coach and having no prior coaching experience, Saturday was informed that he would not be getting the permanent job. That went to Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator, Shane Steichen, who was announced as the franchise’s next head coach on Tuesday.
Saturday posted a video, in which he appeared to be out on the lake fishing, to his Twitter account on Tuesday.
“First, I just wanted to say to the Colts organization and Colts nation, how much I appreciate the opportunity,” Saturday said. “I’m so grateful for the last eight weeks of the season and the opportunity to represent you guys. I appreciate the coaches for all your time, energy and effort. To all the players laying it out there each and every week, I can’t tell you how much I respect what each and every player — not only for the Colts — but the NFL do and what they put on the line each and every week.
“It was an absolute blessing. I look fondly upon it. I wish I would’ve done better, but ultimately that is where it is. I want to wish Coach Steichen the best of luck. I’m still a huge Colt fan and pulling for you guys. Looking forward to hoisting some Lombardi trophies and excited for your opportunity.”
Saturday made sure to thank everyone, including the 4,206 who signed a petition to prevent him from becoming the permanent head coach. He even joked that his wife and son may have signed it, but he’s not exactly sure.
“In all honesty, I’m so grateful for Colts nation and who you are,” he added. “To represent the horseshoe, it meant the world to me.”
